How to sew Viscose Challis Fabric?
Here are 5 tips to get the best results from your next Viscose Challis project!
1. Use a sharp and fine needle: Since viscose challis is prone to snagging and runs, opt for a sharp needle with a slim, tapered point that penetrates the fabric cleanly without causing pulls or damage.
2. Control fraying: Apply a small amount of fray check to the edges of your fabric to prevent fraying, especially if you're working with raw edges or seam allowances that won't be enclosed.
3. Test seam finishes: Due to its lightweight and delicate nature, traditional seam finishes like serging may add too much bulk to viscose challis. Test different techniques such as French seams, narrow hems or bias bindings to find the one that works best for your project.
4. Adjust your machine's tension: Experiment with different settings on a scrap piece of fabric first as viscose challis can be sensitive to tension and stitch length settings on your sewing machine.
5. Press with care: Use a low to medium heat setting on your iron and press gently without dragging the iron across the fabric. Always use a pressing cloth or a piece of scrap fabric to protect the fabric from shine or scorch marks.
